Welcome from Bronwen Rapley, Chief Executive

Thank you for your interest in this opportunity to join us as our new Chair. I hope that this website provides you with all the information you need at this stage, and that you will share our excitement about the role and the significant impact you can have at Onward as we continue to grow and make a real difference to our customers.

Dr. Neil Goodwin will be stepping down later this year having been our Chair for the past six years. It has been a pleasure working closely with Neil since I joined as Chief Executive five years ago, and during that time we have made significant strides forward. This year, our plan to create one organisation has come to fruition.  A comprehensive restructure of the governance, management and operation of the organisation has been completed. We are now realising the financial strength of our united organisation, having very recently secured a £215m bond and a top credit rating of A1 (Stable) from Moody’s. The fact that we achieved the lowest ever long-term margin for a UK housing provider highlights our strong balance sheet, low debt and strong liquidity.

As an organisation which owns and manages over 35,000 homes across the North West, with a commitment to building 500 new homes a year, we have a major role to play across the region, and as our new Chair you will be central to this. We have achieved a considerable amount in recent years, although there is still much more for us to do. Given the very significant challenges that we’ve all faced over the past 12 months, not least in many of the communities that we serve, now more than ever we remain committed to delivering a great service and having a positive impact. 

Our culture at Onward is collegiate and customer-centric.  We are looking for a new Chair who strongly identifies with our purpose, ambitions and values, bringing the exceptional chairing skills required to lead our Board. We are looking for energy, ambition and extensive strategic leadership experience in complex, regulated organisations.
